Historical context | Designed for Her Majesty the Queen (when Princess Elizabeth) to wear on the tour the Royal Family made in April. According to Woman (April 19 1947) '... for garden parties she has chosen some lovely prints among which you see the striking yellow and grey pure silk'. The dress Princess Elizabeth wore had short sleeves and a tie neck, each trimmed with a bow, and she wore it a double string of pearls in the neckline, elbow-length white gloves and a side-tilted straw hat trimmed with yellow ostrich feather and lined with yellow tulle. |
