Physical description

Brush and ink and graphite, drawing in progress for 'Hannibal Passing the Alps', comprising a freely-brushed ink drawing on a back sheet overlaid with a piece of tracing paper. Black ink applied with a brush on the back sheet with pen and ink and graphite outline on tracing-paper front sheet.

This object is an example of a 'blot' drawing in progress. A book of 42 'blot' drawings was published by Cozen's in New Methods of Assisting the Invention in Drawing Original Composition of Lanscape. Published 1788.
