Preliminary sketch of Pluto the Dog for an animated film 'The Dog Show' 1936
Pencil
Walt Disney encouraged his large team of artists to produce a huge number of ideas, usually in the form of rapid sketches, from which he would make a choice of the most promising for further development. This sheet is from a series of 172 in a folder entitled 'The Dog Show' and it shows a very stylised Pluto leaping. it did not matte how roughly these first thoughts were expressed. Disney was sufficiently confident in the drawing skills of his team to know that they would turn them into the thousands of slickly animated cartoon 'cels' which made up his animated films. |
