Object history | The drawing was bequeathed to the museum, together with an important collection of miniatures and drawings, by Ralph Harry Stephenson of Leicester (see : Review of the principal acquisitions during the year 1929, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London 1930, pp. 36-38). |
Production | This drawing has been attributed to a number of different artists since it was acquired in 1929; John Opie, George Dance, and John Hoppner. However it was attributed to Thomas Lawrence by Alicia Weisberg-Roberts in the 2009 exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art, "Mrs Delany & Her Circle", pages 12 & 13 (fn. 54), fig. 18. Footnote 54 notes, "I will discuss the attribution and provenance of this drawing in a forthcoming article". |
