Acquired by the V&A from Leslie Linder (1904-1973) in 1973 as part of the Linder Bequest, a collection of ca. 2150 watercolours, drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, books, photographs, and other memorabilia associated with Beatrix Potter and her family.

Copy B (LB 1631) with bookseller's ticket on inside upper cover: "Sold by / Wm. Whiteley Ltd / Stationers, &c. / Westbourne Grove". With inscription in pencil on half title-page: "4th edition / p.51". With insert: slip of newspaper inscribed in pencil: "4th edition / shed instead of / wept see p.51". Previously Beatrix Potter's own copy. Acquired by the V&A from Leslie Linder (1904-1973) in 1973 as part of the Linder Bequest, a collection of ca. 2150 watercolours, drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, books, photographs, and other memorabilia associated with Beatrix Potter and her family.
