Illustrated with 41 monochrome line photoengravings throughout the text (made from zinc blocks made by the Art Reproduction Company of Fetter Lane) and three-colour-process printed frontispiece (500 impressions produced by Hentschel).

Library's copy B with presentation inscription on recto upper flyleaf: "For Miss Owen / from "Beatrix Potter" (Beatrix Heelis) / Jun [2]5. 17 / With kind regards - / 1st edition, 250 copies / Christmas 1900 [sic]". (Beatrix Potter's date of inscription is incorrect; the date should read 1901.) Acquired by the V&A from Leslie Linder (1904-1973) in 1973 as part of the Linder Bequest, a collection of ca. 2150 watercolours, drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, books, photographs, and other memorabilia associated with Beatrix Potter and her family.
