‘The Connoisseurs’, Darly’s Comic Prints of Characters, Caricatures, Macaronies (London, Matthew and Mary Darly, 1776)
The prologue to Garrick’s comedy Bon Ton (1775) likens its satire to prints caricaturing fashions of the day, including the mania for collecting antiquities: ‘To-night our Bayes, with bold but careless tints, / Hits off a sketch or two like Darly’s prints.’ This is not Garrick’s copy, but he was a subscriber to this compilation of Darly’s prints .
