An apron (Tib. pangden) such as this was worn by all Tibetan women on coming of age at around 16 years old. It both protected her clothes and together with a headdress and jewellery, indicated her adult status. The wool was dyed and woven in the home using plants and minerals found in the locality.

Physical description
An apron consisting of four panels of dyed and woven wool sewn together. The horizontal coloured bands are a regular one centimetre in width and composed of pinky browns, blues and greens, separated by thin lines of bright yellows and blues.
