Place of origin |
This painting is in the distinctive style of the Rajasthani artist Chokha (fl.1799-1824). He worked both at Udaipur and the smaller centre of Deogarh. Paintings like this one date from a period around 1815 when he was experimenting with dramatic light effects, probably as a result of having seen European paintings at the Mewar court. The subject matter, too, is probably taken from western paintings.
