The photograph features a scene in which three figures, two male, one female, are positioned in front of a stone archway. Neilson Terry is shown with his back to the viewer, he is kneeling at the feet of a male figure who stands over him. This male figure is resting his hands on either side of Neilson Terry's head, as if blessing him. McCarthy is postioned to the right of the standing male figure. Her hands are by her sides and her gaze is directed upwards, away from Neilson Terry, and towards the face of Absolon.
