Costume designs for Chariots of Fire, Newham Carnival Olympic Torch Relay, made by Ali Pretty, 2012.
This scene was commissioned by Emergency Exit Arts to signal the arrival of the Olympic torch to the borough of Newham, London.
The main chariot costume was comprised of backpacks with small silk flags and then larger flags to form the 'Chariot of Fire'. This was accompanied by a group of drummers and smaller chariots, the latter of which attached flags to wheelchairs.
Emergency Exit Arts teamed up with East London Dance and 180 aspiring young adult and child dancers to create the spectacle that paraded through the streets of Newham.
The costumes themselves were produced by Pretty's company, Kinetika.
