Production | Although clearly painted under French influence, the original attribution to the French School no longer seems entirely convincing. Long (1923) catalogued it as 'French, or possibly German'. George Isarlov (oral opinion, 1936) suggested a Swedish origin, but this attribution has not been accepted by Bo Wennberg of the National Museum, Stockholm (written opinion, 1971). The costume dates from ca. 1770. |
