  • For the Bouncy and Bosomy... Drawing in pencil of the outline of the women seen in the obverse of the illustration I AM no arbiter on erogenous zones but I do find the new designs in sweaters remarkably interesting. So gay, so lively, so riveting – especially when worn, as most contenders currently wear them – bra-less and bouncy. It is a far-flung cry from the good old serviceable round neck and long sleeves to the light-hearted varieties currently on offer. To begin with they are evidently designed for bosomy girls – little plump, pouter-pigeon types with sufficient expansion to activate the embellishments which include anything from flying fish and sailing boats to knitted-in mice and four-inch reproductions of snoopy (see my sketches.) The rather special thing about all these pretty little tops is their chemise-like brevity. They do not go on and on. They stop short – with a bit of a giggle – give or take a navel. They are a super rig for pear-shaped women – especially when paired with pants. Which certainly makes a welcome change from all the years we’ve suffered from high fashion suited to a bean-pole: Top row, left to right: 1. Cap sleeves and mice, by McCall, £2.25. 2.
