  • It is generally assumed - with some justification, no doubt, though I've never found it to be true - that most mothers fight a pitched battle with teenage daughters over their choice of clothes. On the one hand, it seems, is mama - pushing the need for prettiness "because you're only young once." Directly opposed, I gather, is the daughter who will be avant-garde or bust. Pictured here are two trend-setting dresses that should win approval from both mothers and daughters. Their fabric is white embroidered organdie with black bows. Their style is way out and wonderful. Their price is fine - just 8 1/2 guineas apiece. Both by Susan Small. (Newspaper clipping adhered to reverse)
