The photograph features a full length portrait of two figures, one male and one female. Barnwell (Thesiger) is positioned in the foreground. He is shown seated in a low chair, he legs crossed in front of him and his right hand raised to his face. Lucy (March) is standing to his left. Her left arm is upraised and her right arm is reaching towards Thesiger. Her gaze is directed upwards, whilst Thesiger is shown looking towards a point in the distance.
