The photograph features a scene with bookshelves and a doorway in the background. In front of this two men are shown in a formal embrace. Thesiger stands stiffly on the right, he is wearing pale pantaloons and a cutaway jacket and his left arm is outstretched. Goolden, dressed in dark doublet and hose, is positioned on the left. He is leaning towards Thesiger and is standing on his left leg, his right leg is upraised behind him.
