Object history
Reportedly this shawl was exhibited at the Great Exhibition (V&A), probably the 1861 Exhibition. It belonged at one point to Mrs A. J. Spender, widow of the histiorian, writer and editor of The Westminster Gazette.

Further investigation needed, to check if the shawl is listed in the catalogue of the 1851 Exhibition.
