Physical description | Print showing Act 1, Scene V, from Romeo and Juliet, 1792. The print features a view of a full ballroom, in the foreground is a sofa, on which a young woman and young man are shown in conversation, the man clasping the hand of the woman and gazing into her eyes. An older woman, her hair covered with a pale cap and veil is standing behind the seated figure of the young woman, her hand resting on the other's shoulder. Figures in classically inspired rows are visible dancing in the background whilst a number of men and women are also present and are shown sitting by, and leaning against, the walls of the room. |
