Ruled music-stave book with musical examples

Book
1850s? (made)

The central panel of this book’s cover has been stitched in wool onto linen and inserted into the leather binding. In the mid 19th century there was a demand for novelty in the binding of gift books, which led to combinations of different techniques and materials. Gift books often contained poetry, but this example is filled with leaves of music manuscript paper.
