Europe and America 1815-1900, room 101 Album 1887 Luigi Davani was an Italian artist who specialised in calligraphy and painted illuminations on parchment and vellum. This album contains photographs of his work and has a painted vellum cover designed by him. Although vellum gave way to leather and cloth in the 19th century, it was used for limited edition and bespoke bindings and experienced a revival in the 1890s.
