Rebound in Belgium (ca. 1885) by Hagué. Light brown calf; gold tooling with dark stained sections; raised bands and gold tooling to back; gilt gauffered edges; stylised leaf decoration with central diamond incorporating monogram and sword; roll-tooled board edges.

Book: ‘De Arte Medica Libri Octo’
Published 1552; binding added 1885–90
This classical text on medical practice was written in the 1st century AD by the encyclopaedist Aulus Cornelius Celsus. This copy was published in 1552. In the 1880s the bookbinder Louis Hagué added the gold-tooled calfskin cover which deliberately imitates bindings of the 16th century.
