Nose Ring

20th century (made)
Place of origin

A gold nose ring, nath, with a gold wire loop and a compact design of pearls and kundan-like decorative elements. The loop has a hook on one end on the left hand side which slots into a double twist of the wire loop at the other end. The lower half of the loop is threaded with a series of decorative elements comprising a buta of colourless glass encircled with a row of tiny seed pearls and radiating pearls threaded with fine gold wire onto a back plate. This is next to a rosette of pearls surrounding a green glass stone. There are three clusters of threaded tiny pendant seed pearls interspersed with threaded die-stamped discs rimmed with granulations, simulated pearls as beads and as a pendant and a red glass pendant stone and an irregularly shaped bead. The centre of the nose ring is decorated with a floral setting of red, green and colourless glass, with some of the red stones possibly being semi-precious gems, all mounted in lac within a gold setting on a sheet-metal back plate which mimics the process of kundangold.
