crescent-shaped nose ring, bulak, made of a gold, pierced back plate with granulated and wirework decoration. The serrated edge has an inverted triangle flanked by two smaller ones pointing down from the lower edge. Another triangle points up in the inner curve and is ornamented with a blue glass stone. The decoration shows remnants of a bright coppery-coloured glaze. The small U-shaped loop at the top is fixed with two rings each embellished with a hollow semi-globular element.

This nose ring is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent.
