NUNO means fabric in Japanese and NUNO designers are well known internationally for their ability to create exciting new fibres and weaves. Industrial bi-products ordinarily discarded as wastage, packing material and splatter plating used by the Japanese car industry have all inspired NUNO designers. Despite the focus on new technology, NUNO continues to foster a new generation of weavers who continue to work with hand techniques and natural fibres. Other examples of NUNO fabrics are on display in Gallery 98.(2003)
