Object history | Included in the Design Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NY 1996. NUNO was founded in 1984 as a commercial venture dealing with all stages of textile creation: planning designing, manufacturing and sales. It is a small company which endeavours to combine the best of the past, by drawing on traditional Japanese aesthetics and creative processes, and combining them with modern technologies. Registered File number 1997/1353, taken from Departmental Record |
Production | Attribution note: Manufacturers note: An industrial vinyl polychloride fabric with a preset 50% heat-shrinkage ratio, developed for such uses as car seat covers, is layered onto a polyester organdy, but only partially affixed - using a special adhesive screen-printed in a checkerboard pattern - before receiving a flash heat-treatment. This causes the polyester organdy to shrivel where adhered, and being a thermoplastic fabric, it retains these crinkles even after the vinyl polychloride is peeled away. Reason For Production: Retail |
