A gold crescent-shaped nose ring made of a circular gold loop with a double twist at one end to form an eye with a pointed end to the other end which ends close to the eye but is too rigid to be hooked into it. The ring has a radiating fringe with a characteristic row of small gold blobs along the front ede of the wire ringThe inner side of the ring has a series of concentric gold wirework with a full semi circular plateat the top decorated with small gold circles and shallow cups surroundign a small red glass stone with two flower motifs, one at either side at the top.

Object history
This nose ring is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. She bought this nose ring from Amrapali, the jewellers in Jaipur, in April 2009.
Historical context
This is a characteristic nose ring worn by woman of the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan, where they are known as bhowria
