A circular gold nose ring, nath made of thick gold wire which has been hammered along half its length onto which various separate decorative motifs have been either slotted through rectangular sectioned loops or attached with twisted fine gold wire. The end of the ring is hooked in oder to be slotted through the double loop of twisted gold from the other end. The separate decorative elements of a roundel, a curved oblong shape, a flower together with a trellis of six interlinked roundels and tear-drop shapes are all inset with a variety of red and green glass or diamonds, all outlined in rows of seed pearls. The lower band is fringed with small pearls and green glass beads with gold tips The floral inset motif has a pendant gold tear-drop shape inset with green glass, encircled with seed pearls and three further small clusters of tiny seed pearls suspended from it with fine twists of gold wire. The remaining arc in the ring is decorated with four bands of granulated gold, two facetted gold balls and a bevelled red glass bead in the middle.

| Object history | This nose ring is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. This nose ring was purchased by Dr, Ganguly from the dealer, Hans Weihreter, Khyuin, Augsburg, July 1999. |
