A circular gold convex head ornament with an openwork design of a central peacock sourrounded by scrolling flowers set in red, green and white stones within borders set with red stones. A gold slot in the centre of the back is for fixing the ornament to a band tied onto the hair alonside the parting.

| Object history | This ornament is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was bought from a jewellery dealer, Vummidi Bangaru Chetty and Sons in Madras (now Chennai) on 3rd March 1997 |
