A silver necklace made up of two tiers of foil-backed glass-set elements linked together with silver chains. The individual decorative units are made of shaped silver back plates onto which are fused bezels filled with orange-coloured lac into which are set pieces of colourless glass backed in gold foil. A large central pendant is crescent shaped with an auspicious red tikka dot sandwiched between the foil and glass. The double silver chain has a chain tassel on the left hand side terminating in glass beads. The 'S'-shaped fastener is a modern replacement.

| Object history | This necklace is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was purchased from the Delhi dealer, Mahendra, in November 2012 for 435 Euros. |
