The bracelet is made of a heavy duty serpentine coil of silver wire with an applied decorative element of a cluster of hemi-spheres soldered together on a silver plate which is soldered onto the coils of the bracelet. Opposite this there is a shallow square box decorated with tapering layers of discs with scallpped edgings. In the centre there is a hole for a fastening screw with a decorative knop. The screw passes through a flattened loop which is attached to one side of the bracelet that springs apart when the screw, which keeps the bracelet together under tension, is removed.

Object history | This bracelet is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was bought from Amrapali in February 2012 for 298 Euros. |
