One of the most influential photo-journalist magazines of the era. The founder-editor was Stefan Lorant, who with the financial backing of Edward Hulton, and with the creative assistance of the photographer Felix H. Man, established the magazine in 1938. Lorant was succeeded as editor in 1940 by his assistant, Tom Hopkinson. The magazine became known for its innovative encouragement of the work of photographers such as Bert Hardy and Bill Brandt, who along with other photographers (including many women photographers such as Grace Robertson) made 'Picture Post' famous for powerful, politically radical and socially realistic photography.
