This dress is a contemporary adaptation of a traditional sari; it is a stitched garment which incorporates elements of a sari such as the pleating at the front and the pallu or drape across the shoulder. The dress is catering for a younger generation of women who want the stylishness of a sari with the convenience of a fitted garment fastened by a simple zipper on the side. It is made from khadi (handwoven fabric made from handspun thread) which has been indigo dyed using natural dyes. The black fabric which makes up the pallu is attached to the blue fabric with chikankari embroidery.
