Place of origin

This ensemble by Abraham and Thakore consists of trousers and belted tunic with a loose jacket. The monotone aesthetic, simple cut and use of handloom fabric is very typical of the designers' work and is an example of the way in which Indian designers are adapting traditional dress for a contemporary environment. This is Abraham and Thakore's interpretation of the traditional shalwar/churidar (trouser) and kameez/kurta (top) combinations which have become a standard form of dress across India.

WOMAN'S TUNIC AND TROUSERS

The tunic-trouser ensemble has become a popular alternative to the sari in India. Here designers Abraham & Thakore adapt the look, restyling the shalwar/churidar (trousers) and kameez/kurta (tunic) for a contemporary environment. The simple colour, cut and use of hand-loom fabric are typical of their work.
