Kimono are traditionally worn with geta, elevated shoes held on the foot with a thong. The sole and supporting boards, called ha (teeth), are carved from wood. On this pair, the wood is lacquered in black and silver, which creates an elegant counter-point to the upper sections of the shoes. These are made of ribbed silk woven from threads selectively dyed in purple.
