This ridge tile was part of the architectural fittings of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. After the tile was removed from its original site in 1901 it was used as a decorative ornament in a British home. The wooden stand was made in Canton especially for such a purpose.

Ridge tile, LEAD green glazed stoneware in shape of a bird, China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), 1750-1880, and wooden stand carved with dragons, Guangzhou (Canton), Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), ca. 1901.
