Necklace and Case

1994 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Husband and wife artists Francois-Xavier and Claude Lalanne began working together in the 1950s and came to prominence as sculptors in the 1970s. They are known for figurative work with strong leanings towards surrealism and art nouveau. While he focussed on the animal world, Claude was particularly drawn to botanical themes. Her jewellery explores this further through a process whereby real flowers are coated with silver using electrolysis. Further casts in gilt-bronze were made in limited editions, of which this necklace is an example.

This necklace is one of forty-five pieces of jewellery given to the V&A from the collection of the late Louise Klapisch.
