'River' was exclusively produced to accompany the 'Richard Rogers: Inside Out', Royal Academy Exhibition of 2013. Rogers is renowned for his high-tech modernist and functionalist architectural designs and best known for buildings such as the Pompidou Centre, Lloyd’s Building, the Millennium Dome and the European Court of Human Rights. The River Thames is a central theme of Rogers’ work. Since the early history of the city the river has been at the heart of London life and is one of the key elements to ‘urban renaissance’ within the capital. The blue silhouette on these six plates becomes an abstraction of its original form. It remains recognisable on both a collection of six or on a single plate.
This design was created with Stuart Blower an architectural illustrator who has worked at the Richard Rogers Partnership since 1999 and Repeat Repeat (Gillian Naylor and Mark Faulkner) a design and manufacturing studio in Stoke-on-Trent. Repeat Repeat produce bone china tableware including bespoke commissions for artists, museums, private companies and retailers. These plates are representative of the innovative smaller companies working in Stoke-on-Trent, producing stylish, bespoke or small-scale production.
