Publicity material in the form of a paper fan, advertising a production of Evensong by Edward Knoblock and Beverley Nichols, at the Queens Theatre, London, and the Malvern Festival, 1932.
The production was adapted from the original book by Beverley Nichols and starred Dame Edith Evans (1888-1976) as Irela, with Violet Vanbrugh, Wilfrid Lawson (whose name is misspelt on the fan), Frederick Leister, Joan Harben and Harry Wilcoxon. The play, which centres upon the last role of a famous singer, was presented by Barry Jackson, who staged an annual summer festival at Malvern from 1929-1937. The 1932 Festival, advertised on the fan as 'Four Hundred Years of English Drama' consisted of The Play of the Wether, Ralph Roister Doister, The Alchemist, Oronooko, Tom Thumb the Great, London Assurance and the British premiere of George Bernard Shaw's Too True to be Good.
