Place of origin |
'Clifton' Dolls' House is a hardboard dolls' house with printed paper exteriors and interiors, and plastic doors and windows, produced by Toy Works in the 1970s. This particular one was bought from a toy shop in Northfield, Birmingham in July 1979.
Bought flat-packed, this small dolls' house slots together to make a sturdy but relatively cheap child's toy.
In their hardboard and paper simplicity, the Toy Works houses of the 1970s are reminiscent of the Gottschalk lithographed houses produced in Germany a century earlier.
