These tiles were among a mixed group brought form the Paris 1867 Exhibition which were divided into small panels and lent to museums around the country as educative examples of "Modern French" manufactue. Sèvres was actively encouraging the production of garden and architectural wares and these tiles may be a direct result of this support. The sophisticated printing technique, allowing variations both in colour and texture, may be by L.A.C. Macé who patented a chromolithographic process, which he exhibited with sucess in 1867. The tiles have no factory mark.
