Dress
1970-1980 (Made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This outfit is not characteristically Moroccan and consists of four pieces: a tunic, a pair of pants, a cord belt and a square shawl. The relatively short, long-sleeved tunic is made of a black silky material and decorated with red, blue, green and gold coloured embroidery in vegetable silk (sabra) as well as needle lace on the edges. The shape of the shoulders and sleeves are very unusual for Moroccan garments and resemble Pakistani outfits. The second part of the outfit are a pair of simple pants, held together with an elastic in the waist and decorated with needle lace in the bottom in black and gold coloured vegetable silk (sabra). The cord belt, however, is made in a technique that is frequently used in Morocco, but not necessarily for female haute couture garments in that period. The shawl is square shaped, decorated with green, red, blue and gold coloured vegetable silk embroidery as well as black and gold coloured needle lace on the edges.
