Object history
This tile, together with 10 others, were taken out of the kitchen of a semi-detached house in the Primrose Hill area of London in about 2000, and eventually sold on E-Bay.
They were made in a kiln called Wu Jinhe in Chaozhou, Guangdong province, China. Martin van Straaten, a Dutch tile dealer in London, imported Chinese tiles until their quality deteriorated in the early 1920s. Van Straaten then sourced supply from Holland, sending Chinese tiles as samples. Tiles from Tichelaar factory show very similar designs.
