This 1960s battery operated plane dates from a time when vehicles of all types were very popular in toy form. Battery toys were on the increase, with other toy manufacturers competing with the Japanese who had become pre-eminent in this area during the previous decade. Louis Marx was an American company who also made toys in Britain and for the British market. It was particularly well-known for its tinplate mechanical toys and vehicles. The plane reflects the changing face of international travel dating from a time when more people were able to fly, taking advantage of cheap charter holiday flights.
