Title

Artist's Book
1999 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This book is one part of a series of 23 bookworks entitled 'Volumes (of vulnerability)' curated by Susan Johanknecht and Katharine Meynell, published to coincide with the millennium. Participating artists contributed work interpreting the concept of vulnerability. In 'Title' by Sophie Artemis the physical instability or vulnerability of the book is made explicit by the intentional 'coffee stains' on the cover and central opening of the work, while the text is both a close examination of the individual components that make up a book as well as a conscious journey through the act of reading.

"This millennial project brings together two ideas, measurement and risk, at one location: the book - and its relatives ..." (from an introduction by Clive Phillpot).

"Twenty artists have worked ... using aspects of the book ... to iterate vulnerability"--Curators' introduction.

Volumes (of vulnerability) : touring exhibition opened at the Standpoint Gallery, London, 13 January - 20 February 2000 : venues includeed the Dean Clough Galleries, Halifax, UK and others. Curated by Susan Johanknecht and Katharine Meynell
