Window no. 2

Necklace
1999 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

In this necklace Annelies Planteydt represents an architectural drawing of a window frame, with each line taken by a separate strip of metal. These are connected in a way that allows them either to lie flat and angular to echo a scale model, or to drape more freely on the body. The work has an overriding discipline of rigidity and structure yet transforms to a kinetic and fluid form on handling or wearing.

This necklace is one of forty-five pieces of jewellery given to the V&A from the collection of the late Louise Klapisch.

Five slightly curved strips of beaten gold form the necklace from which hangs a lattice of smaller strips of tantalum and gold, forming a linear grid pattern resembling the glazing bars of a window.
