Leif Stangebye-Nielsen (b.1955) is one of the most distinguished silversmiths working in Norway today. He trained for five years at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo and was awarded his diploma in 1983. Since 1989, he has been a professor at this academy. He has been exhibited extensively throughout Scandinavia, Europe, Dubai and Japan. He is represented in the permanent collection of 10 Norwegian institutions including the National Museum in Oslo, the Museum of Applied Art in Trondheim and the West Norway Museum of Applied Art in Bergen as well as the Røhsska Museum of design, fashion and the decorative arts in Gothenburg, Sweden. He has won several scholarships and awards including the award given by the Norwegian Craft Association, given to only one artist each year, in 1998. He has been an active member of the Norwegian Craft Association since 1984.

Physical description | The teapot rests on an elliptical, flat base, the domed body rises towards a small, raised, circular rim to which is fitted a detachable lid. The lid, a circular, domed piece of jacaranda wood riveted to a circular flange. The spout, a domed section with a small circular aperture is attached at the front. The curved handle which sweeps over the top of the vessel is a strip of jacaranda wood with a curved underside and is attached by a rivet at the base to a flange supported by a domed socket at the rear of the vessel. The surface of the metal is softly planished. |
