Object history
This loving cup was made by the Claypits Pottery in about 1900 when Evan Jones was in charge (1884-1912). During his management, new vessel shapes based on medieval or early modern forms were made. This is one such example, being incised in Welsh as being a ‘loving cup as in 1670’. The Claypits Pottery had been using local clay to produce earthenware vessels for local markets since the eighteenth century. At the time of acquisition by the Museum, the pottery was one of two surviving potteries in Ewenny.
