Pedestal

01/01/1775 - 31/12/1799
Place of origin

The columns were bequeathed to the Museum by John Jones in his will of 1882. An illustration in the Handbook of his collection, published in 1883, appears to show them set to the side of his drawing room beside a cabinet, and used as a plinth for two candelabra (now Museum no. 971 and A-1882). Columns and candelabra are listed separately in the 1882 summary inventory of the collection, and were not referred to at all in the written text of the 1883 handbook.
