This elbow-length sleeve of linen fabric has been removed from a woman's garment, possibly a waistcoat or bodice. It may have been part of the lining for a woman’s bodice. The shape of the sleeve and the cartridge-pleating at the top relate to the fashionable sleeves of women’s dress between 1650 and 1675.

Physical description | An elbow-length sleeve of linen fabric from a woman's garment. It is cut in two pieces, like a tailored waistcoat or bodice, with a decorative line of embroidered knots along the inside of the sleeve. The upper edge is cartridge-pleated and held in place with two lines of stitching and a very narrow bias-cut linen strip. |

Object history | This sleeve was acquired with T.467:1-1997 and thought to be part of it or another garment associated with it. Further study of these objects has determined that T.467:1-1997 dates from the early 19th century. The style and construction of this sleeve indicates that it was probably part of a linen bodice or waistcoat dating from about 1650-1675. |
