Madame Celeste achieved success in both the United Kingdom and America. She began her training at the Academie Royale, Paris, but moved to America as a young women and made her debut at the Bowery theatre, New York. She came to England in the 1830s and in her later years achieved sufficient status and earnings to manage first the Adelphi, and subsequently the Lyceum Theatre, in London.
